The instantaneous recording works fine (tested to an hour recording two channels), and file playback is great. When trying to set scheduled recording using the EPG ('EPG Booking Record'), it only records for 5 – 10 secs and stops? Furthermore, it then won't let me delete the short recording from the 'Record List' as it says it's 'Locked'? I have tried several times now to use the EPG Booking Record, with the unit being powered on, and in standby mode, which both register the recording fine, and pop up with a confirmation just prior to commencement of recording, but unfortunately it only records the first few seconds. 7-day EPG is slick and easy to use.HOWEVER, here is the first issue. The passive cooling makes the unit very quiet (to the point where you can hear a recording actually write to the HD if you listen close enough). Nice interface, timeshift works a treat, dual tuners are good, instantaneous recording works fine and the addition of 30 minute blocks by multiple de-pressing of the record button is handy too. Just received my new EG-R3A to which I slotted a WD 1.5TB caviar green HD within (took 30 secs to format using the EG-R3A), and I have to say, so far it's been pretty good.
